5 Top Anti Dandruff Shampoos You Should Try For Indian Hair !

Dandruff affects young and old and though it is not a serious condition, it can be uncomfortable as it causes itching and severe flakiness. We get plenty of dandruff shampoos in the markets to treat it but we can easily make our own anti dandruff shampoo that treats dandruff very effectively without any of the harmful chemicals. All the ingredients given for the recipes below can be easily got here in India and they work perfectly for Indian hair. The most common symptoms of dandruff are appearance of excessive amount of white flakes in the scalp and extreme itchiness. You can read about all the causes and treatments available for dandruff here. Since one of the most common reasons for getting dandruff is a fungal infection, most of the shampoos contain ingredients that contain anti fungal properties. Some of the common ingredients used in anti dandruff shampoos are zinc pyrithione for mild dandruff, ketoconazole for severe dandruff, coal tar but it smells bad and selenium sulfide. But almost all of the anti dandruff shampoos available in the markets comes with a long list of chemicals that we can't even pronounce along with synthetic fragrance and colors. All we need is a powerful anti fungal to treat the dandruff and we can easily do it by including fresh neem leaf or rosemary or poduthalai extract. I also love to add tea tree essential oil as it has powerful anti fungal properties. I use liquid Castile soap as a base for making the shampoo. Castile soap is natural bio degradable soap made with olive oil as a base, you can easily order it online. Make small batches of this shampoo and use it with a week, if you want to improve the shelf life you can refrigerate it. Though this shampoo might look a bit runny compared to commercial shampoos, it foams and cleans well. It also helps get rid of dandruff very quickly and permanently. If you like to get to know all the other amazing home remedies for dandruff, you can read it here.

10 Top Causes, Symptoms & Treatments For Dandruff We Should Know

Dandruff affects young and old and though it is not a serious condition, it can be uncomfortable as it causes itching and severe flakiness. I got dandruff when I went to hostel, my scalp was constantly itchy and hair fall also started very soon. The hostel food also was poor and added to the problem. When I came home for the long holidays, my mom treated my dandruff with at home treatments which worked really well. I still continue to do those treatments at home regularly to keep my scalp dandruff free. But before we get to know the traditional home remedies for dandruff, we should get to know what causes dandruff in the first place. Prevention is always better than cure and if we get to know the reasons we can prevent getting dandruff in the first place. When I first spoke to a dermatologist about it, he said that the exact cause of dandruff is not known but he mentioned all the possible reasons that we could get dandruff. Since I had dandruff, I could personally relate to many of the reasons he mentioned which I have listed below. Dandruff Symptoms: The most common symptoms are appearance of excessive amount of white flakes in the scalp and extreme itchiness. For me, it was mild itchiness and flakiness and once I started using home remedies, it stopped very quickly. I will be doing a separate post on all the natural remedies for dandruff soon. Common Treatments: The common treatment for dandruff involves using anti dandruff shampoos containing certain special ingredients. The first ingredient is ketaconazole which is used for treating fungal infections that cause dandruff. The next ingredient used in dandruff shampoos is salicylic acid which helps loosen the flakes found in the scalp which when stuck to the scalp can increase the infection further. The third common ingredient used is coal tar which helps reduce the inflammation. The next ingredient is selenium sulphide which helps reduce the fungal infection well and finally in extreme cases steroids are prescribed. I would suggest using home remedies but if you want to try these shampoos apply them on the scalp only the number of times prescribed and leave it on the scalp only for the time mentioned in the bottle. Some of these shampoos can cause side effects so if you experience any adverse effects stop using them immediately and consult your dermatologist about it.....

DIY Dandruff Hair Mask to Get Rid of Dandruff Naturally, Permanently, Fast at Home

This homemade dandruff hair mask can be safely used by everyone and it is very effective to get rid of dandruff effectively. Equal quantities of henna, neem and tulsi leaves are taken and ground together with yogurt into a thick paste. This hair mask should be used regularly, at least weekly once to get good results. If you don't get fresh leaves, you can substitute it with dried powders too. Dried powders of these leaves are available every where now. If you want to use only fresh leaves and don't get all the three leaves, make this pack with the leaves that you get. But don't skip yogurt, as the yogurt conditions the hair well. Apply this hair mask on the scalp and wait for at least 15 to 20 mts before washing it off. The henna in this mask will not color your hair red, as we are using yogurt. This hair mask can be safely used, even during the winter time as we are using tulsi. If you are using powders, make sure to buy good quality ones and just mix it with curd and use it the same way.

How To Use Fenugreek | Methi Seeds For Dandruff: Fenugreek Hair Mask

Fenugreek seeds are called methi seeds in Hindi and vendhayam in Tamil. Since it is a common kitchen ingredient, we use it a lot in remedies and especially it's very famous for treating all scalp related problems. Methi seeds helps in hair regrowth, stops hair fall and treats dandruff. I always had dandruff from my young age. When I was younger, my mom used to regularly apply methi hair mask regularly on my hair and let it soak for 20 minutes before washing my hair. After marriage, I don't know why but I stopped using it. My dandruff became very worse and I completely forgot about methi mask. I went to a dermatologist and he gave me anti dandruff shampoos to use. The problem with anti dandruff shampoos was once I stopped using them, I got the dandruff back immediately. When I went to the doctor again, I mentioned about this methi mask. He replied that there is no permanent cure for dandruff and I will have to use anti dandruff shampoos regularly. But if I was comfortable with a home remedy I can go ahead with it. I have been using this mask regularly, weekly once or twice and my dandruff is under control. This mask is the only treatment I use for my dandruff and I have been using it for years now. It not only treats dandruff, it greatly conditions the hair and arrests hair fall, if used regularly. It is one of my favorite hair masks that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to treat dandruff naturally at home. The only problem with this methi seeds hair pack is that anyone who is prone to sinus or asthma can't use it as it is very cooling and will aggravate the problem. To be on the safer side, don't let the hair mask soak for a long time (max 10 minutes) when you are using it the first time. Once you are comfortable, then you can let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
