How To Use Flaxseed & Flaxseed Oil For Hair Growth?

Both flaxseed and flaxseed oil are amazing for hair growth. Flaxseed is called Alsi | Alasi in Hindi and Avise Ginjalu in Telugu and Ali Vithai in Tamil. We get it easily everywhere in India and it will be a great loss if we don't use it as it has amazing hair, skin and health benefits. I always stock up on flax seed and use it extensively for hair and skin care. I also love to add it in recipes. Flaxseed Benefits For Hair: 1. Flaxseed is very high in omega-3 fatty acids that helps nourish the hair follicles. 2. Flaxseed gel makes the hair follicles stronger and healthy thus greatly preventing hair loss both when taken internally and applied externally. 3. It is also rich in b-vitamins which helps reduce the dryness of hair and makes the hair unbelievable soft and smooth. 4. Flaxseed gel is very very soothing when applied onto the scalp as a pack and helps reduce scalp inflammations well. 5. Flaxseed oil when used as a massage oil improves blood circulation in the scalp thus promoting fast hair growth. How To Consume Flaxseed For Hair Growth? Usually nutritionists recommend consuming ground flaxseed because the ground flaxseed is easier to digest than the whole seeds. Grinding also helps break the hard seat coat which is difficult to do, if you chew the whole seeds. I have given few of the ways I consume flaxseed below. But flaxseed is very high in fiber so please don't over consume it else it'll cause stomach problems like bloating, stomach pain etc. If it does, reduce the quantity of flaxseed you're consuming and increase it slowly over time. It also interacts with blood thinner medications. Where To Buy Flaxseed & Flaxseed Oil For Hair? You can buy it all departmental stores in India, when you are buying flaxseed oil make sure to buy virgin flaxseed oil for best results....

5 Top Anti Dandruff Shampoos You Should Try For Indian Hair !

Dandruff affects young and old and though it is not a serious condition, it can be uncomfortable as it causes itching and severe flakiness. We get plenty of dandruff shampoos in the markets to treat it but we can easily make our own anti dandruff shampoo that treats dandruff very effectively without any of the harmful chemicals. All the ingredients given for the recipes below can be easily got here in India and they work perfectly for Indian hair. The most common symptoms of dandruff are appearance of excessive amount of white flakes in the scalp and extreme itchiness. You can read about all the causes and treatments available for dandruff here. Since one of the most common reasons for getting dandruff is a fungal infection, most of the shampoos contain ingredients that contain anti fungal properties. Some of the common ingredients used in anti dandruff shampoos are zinc pyrithione for mild dandruff, ketoconazole for severe dandruff, coal tar but it smells bad and selenium sulfide. But almost all of the anti dandruff shampoos available in the markets comes with a long list of chemicals that we can't even pronounce along with synthetic fragrance and colors. All we need is a powerful anti fungal to treat the dandruff and we can easily do it by including fresh neem leaf or rosemary or poduthalai extract. I also love to add tea tree essential oil as it has powerful anti fungal properties. I use liquid Castile soap as a base for making the shampoo. Castile soap is natural bio degradable soap made with olive oil as a base, you can easily order it online. Make small batches of this shampoo and use it with a week, if you want to improve the shelf life you can refrigerate it. Though this shampoo might look a bit runny compared to commercial shampoos, it foams and cleans well. It also helps get rid of dandruff very quickly and permanently. If you like to get to know all the other amazing home remedies for dandruff, you can read it here.

How To Use Almond Oil (Badam Oil) For Hair Growth | 5 Top Ways

Almond oil is one of the best oils to use for promoting hair growth. If you are suffering from hair loss, I would suggest using nourishing pure plant based oils like almond oil regularly for hair treatments. With regular use, you will be really surprised how the texture of our hair changes for the better and also how fast the hair grows. The reason almond oil is so good for hair is because 1. It is very high in vitamin E (5.3 mg of vitamin E for 1 tbsp of almond oil) which is an amazing antioxidant that prevents free radicals that cause damage to our hair. 2. Almond oil contains high levels of fatty acids and when we apply it on our hair, it nourishes and conditions it greatly and is really great for dry and damaged hair. 3. Almond oil has anti inflammatory properties and if you are suffering from scalp inflammation, I would highly suggest regular almond oil massage. 4. Regularly using almond oil hair treatments adds shine to hair and prevents split ends. If you are suffering from split ends and dull hair, I would suggest egg and almond oil hair mask given below, it will greatly help. 5. Regularly massaging scalp with almond oil will improve circulation in the scalp and strengthen the hair roots. You can either use it alone or combine it with coconut oil and castor oil and use. When you are using castor oil, use it in 1:4 ratio as castor oil is very sticky. There are two different types of almond oil available. One is from sweet almond tree whose botanical name is Prunus Dulcis Var. Amygdalus. This is the almonds that we regularly consume. It has amazing hair, skin and health benefits. The main fatty acid composition of sweet almond oil are oleic acid, linoleic acid followed by palmitic acid and stearic acid. The unsaponifiable portion contains phytosterols, tocopherol and squalane. It is pale straw colored liquid with high amount of fatty acids that nourishes the hair and skin. This is the oil to use for hair care. The second type is got from bitter almond tree whose botanical name is Prunus Dulcis Var. Amara. Bitter almond has compounds called cyanogenic glucosides and when the bitter almonds are macerated, they hydrolyze and produce toxic hydrogen cyanide in very high amounts. Since bitter almond oil is very toxic it should be used only under medical supervision. When buying almond oil, make sure to buy only cold pressed sweet almond oil. In India, refined almond oil is sold cheaply, I would suggest buying only cold pressed sweet almond oil for best results.....

How To Use Rice Water For Hair Growth | 3 Top Rice Water Hair Treatments

Rice water is one of the cheapest but most effective hair care treatments that we can do at home. All you need for it is handful of rice, using rice water for stimulating hair growth and to condition our hair has been done for centuries. It has been popular in many Asian countries like India and Japan for stimulating hair growth. What Is Rice Water? The water in which rice was boiled is called rice water. In olden days, when the concept of rice cooker was not known, rice was boiled in clay pots with large amounts of water and once the rice got cooked, the water was drained. Since rice was consumed on a daily basis, rice water was always there at home and it was extensively used for both skin and hair care. Types Of Rice Water: There are actually two types of rice water. The first is the water in which the rice was used to soak before cooking. It is also called rice water and it will be slightly cloudy as rice releases little bit of it's starch in it. The second is boiled rice water got when we drain the water after the rice is cooked. I prefer the boiled rice water as it is more creamy and thicker. Rice water has amazing hair benefits especially if we use it regularly: 1. Rice Water For Hair Growth: Rice water is rich in amino acids and vitamins which helps in hair regrowth. If you are suffering from hair fall, I would suggest using rice water regularly for hair care 2. Rice Water For Split Ends: Rice water especially cooked rice water is very very nourishing and super conditioning. When we use it as a shampoo mixed with shikakai powder, it prevents dryness which leads to split ends. 3. Makes Hair Super Shiny & Glossy: When we use rice water as a final hair rinse, it coats the hair and makes the hair super shiny and glossy. You can use either one of the three methods mentioned for the hair rinse. 4. Rice Water Repairs Damaged Hair: Rice water contains a compound called inositol which helps repair damaged hair really effectively. When we use it as a hair rinse, it forms a protective coat and helps heal and repair damaged hair. 5. Strengthen Hair Roots: When we use rice water on our scalp along with other conditioning ingredients as a hair pack, it greatly helps strengthen the hair roots. 6. Treats Dandruff: Fermented rice water when applied directly on the scalp is an amazing home remedy for dandruff. It is a traditional remedy that has been done for many years in our village. 7. Natural Hair Conditioner: If you are looking for a natural but effective hair conditioner then I would highly suggest using rice water as a final hair rinse. If you have extremely dry hair, you can mix one vitamin e capsule in it and use as a final hair rinse. 8. Arrests Hair Fall: If the hair fall is caused due to scalp problems using rice water regularly will greatly help. I would suggest mixing amla powder and rice water and using it as a hair pack, it will arrest hair fall immediately. What Is Fermented Rice Water? When we leave the rice water to ferment, it is called fermented rice water. Both types of rice water I mentioned can be left to ferment for a day and then can be used for hair care. Fermenting the rice water increase the nutrient profile of rice water which in turn helps nourish our hair follicles even better. It also brings down the pH level of the rice water almost close to that of our scalp which makes it very effective. Fermented rice water also contains pitera which is a natural by product of fermentation. Pitera has amazing hair and skin benefits and greatly helps protect the hair. You can use any type of rice to make rice water, I prefer hand pounded rice.....

10 Top Causes, Symptoms & Treatments For Dandruff We Should Know

Dandruff affects young and old and though it is not a serious condition, it can be uncomfortable as it causes itching and severe flakiness. I got dandruff when I went to hostel, my scalp was constantly itchy and hair fall also started very soon. The hostel food also was poor and added to the problem. When I came home for the long holidays, my mom treated my dandruff with at home treatments which worked really well. I still continue to do those treatments at home regularly to keep my scalp dandruff free. But before we get to know the traditional home remedies for dandruff, we should get to know what causes dandruff in the first place. Prevention is always better than cure and if we get to know the reasons we can prevent getting dandruff in the first place. When I first spoke to a dermatologist about it, he said that the exact cause of dandruff is not known but he mentioned all the possible reasons that we could get dandruff. Since I had dandruff, I could personally relate to many of the reasons he mentioned which I have listed below. Dandruff Symptoms: The most common symptoms are appearance of excessive amount of white flakes in the scalp and extreme itchiness. For me, it was mild itchiness and flakiness and once I started using home remedies, it stopped very quickly. I will be doing a separate post on all the natural remedies for dandruff soon. Common Treatments: The common treatment for dandruff involves using anti dandruff shampoos containing certain special ingredients. The first ingredient is ketaconazole which is used for treating fungal infections that cause dandruff. The next ingredient used in dandruff shampoos is salicylic acid which helps loosen the flakes found in the scalp which when stuck to the scalp can increase the infection further. The third common ingredient used is coal tar which helps reduce the inflammation. The next ingredient is selenium sulphide which helps reduce the fungal infection well and finally in extreme cases steroids are prescribed. I would suggest using home remedies but if you want to try these shampoos apply them on the scalp only the number of times prescribed and leave it on the scalp only for the time mentioned in the bottle. Some of these shampoos can cause side effects so if you experience any adverse effects stop using them immediately and consult your dermatologist about it.....

5 Top Hair Uses, Benefits & Side Effects Of Indigo Powder (Avuri) For Grey Hair & Hair Growth

If you are looking for a natural alternative for chemical hair dyes, then indigo powder is a great choice. Indigo powder is got by powdering the leaves of indigo plant whose botanical name is Indigofera Tinctoria. The leaves produce dark blue dye and when applied as a hair dye after using henna, gives dark black colour. Indigo powder is called Indian Indigo in English, Avuri or Neeli in Tamil, Neeli Chettu in Telugu, Neela Amari | Neelayamari in Malayalam, Neelini | Neela in Hindi, Neeli in Kannada, Neel in Marathi, Wasma in Arabic and Neel in Urdu. Indigo is a small shrub that grows about 1 to 2 meters high and produces beautiful pink flowers. Indigo plant has wonderful medicinal uses and all parts of the plant is used medicinally. Though indigo is known mainly as a natural dye, it has other amazing hair benefits too. Indigo is mainly used in the form of hair oil for stimulating hair growth and in the form of a pack for dyeing the hair. For dyeing, it is applied after henna. Henna makes the hair reddish orange and indigo dyes the hair dark blue color and together they create a natural black color. Here are the amazing hair benefits of indigo powder: 1. Indigo Powder For Premature Greying Of The Hair: Indigo leaf is an amazing home remedy for treating premature greying of the hair. Regular use of hair oil made with indigo leaves will reverse and prevent greying of the hair. 2. Indigo Powder For Hair Growth: Indigo hair oil made with the leaves is amazing for hair growth. It prevents scalp infections and stimulates new hair growth when used regularly. 3. Indigo Powder For Dandruff: The hair oil made with indigo leaves is also a very good remedy for dandruff. It reduces dandruff greatly and if used from young age, it will greatly prevent dandruff. 4. Indigo Powder Hair Dye: One main hair benefit of indigo is that it acts as a natural hair dye. In my personal opinion, it is one of natures gift considering the side effects of chemical hair dyes which range from increased sensitivity to sun to skin allergies. 5. Indigo Powder For Dry Hair: Indigo hair oil is one of the best conditioners that softens your hair really really well. If you are suffering from dry brittle hair, I would suggest using indigo oil regularly. Within few days of regular use, you will find you hair smooth and soft. For making indigo oil, indigo leaves, amla and bhringraj are boiled together in a pan till the water evaporates and the sizzling sound stops. These 3 herbs also forms the base for the famous Neelibhrigraj Oil which is very popular for treating premature greying of the hair. Neelibhringraj oil also contains additional ingredients like buffalo milk, cow's milk and coconut milk. But in my personal experience hair oil made with just the three herbs also is equally effective for stimulating hair growth and preventing premature greying of the hair. For dyeing, if you want black color, make sure to use it after applying henna, this will ensure you get a dark color. If you want a dark reddish tinge color, you can mix both henna and indigo together and apply. Side Effects Of Indigo Powder: There are no side effects to using indigo powder for hair. But like with any ingredient some might experience indigo powder allergy but this is very rare. The only side effect is it might be messy and time consuming to use indigo as a hair dye but it will get easier once you start using it regularly. Also we get lot of fake indigo powder in the markets. To make sure it is original, mix it in water and wait for 15 minutes, the dark blue dye should bleed out else it is fake. Where To Buy Indigo Powder For Hair? We get natural organic indigo powder in most herbal shops in India. If you are living in Tamil Nadu, you get avuri leaf powder in nattu marundhu kadai. You can also buy good quality indigo powder online. Some common questions asked regarding dyeing hair with indigo powder: How Long Should I Leave Indigo In My Hair: I would suggest leaving Indigo paste for 2 hours for best results. Can I leave Indigo In My Hair Overnight? You don't need to leave it on overnight, the dye fixes on the hair within 2 hours. How To Rinse Indigo Out Of Hair? Rinse it off with plain water for best results. Is Indigo Bad For Your Hair? Indigo is natural product and will never harm your hair. It will only make it shiny and strong. How Long Indigo Hair Dye Lasts? The time it lasts varies from person to person. For some it might last well for 8 to 12 weeks, for some it might wash off sooner. It greatly depends on how porous our hair is. How to Make Indigo Stick To Hair? Some people's hair absorb the indigo dye poorly, if it is the case, mix 1 tsp of salt for every 100 gram of indigo powder, it will help fix the dye. Also apply indigo paste on clean dry hair only. Oiling Hair After Indigo: It is best to oil the hair after 48 hours after indigo hair dye application. Shampoo After Indigo: Shampoo only after 48 hours after applying indigo hair dye to prevent it washing off fast. How To Make Indigo Last Longer: If you wash your hair daily, the dye will not last longer. Also try to use only mild shampoos for best results...

5 Top Benefits & Uses Of Potato Juice For Hair Growth

When one of my friends mentioned about using potato for hair growth, I was skeptical at first. I have used potato for beauty treatments but it was always for skin and never for hair care. My friend convinced me to try it and I am very glad I did. The first treatment I tried was potato hair rinse. After boiling the potatoes I had the left over potato boiled water that I usually discard so I thought of using it as a final rinse along with lemon juice. And it really left my hair shiny and smooth immediately after using it. The next was potato hair mask, which I made by mixing potato juice along with Aloe Vera gel like my friend suggested. I also added in few drops of virgin coconut oil as I have dry hair and I liked the hair mask too. My scalp felt clean and free of dandruff after using it. Now after trying these treatments, I regularly use potato in my hair care regime. If you get to know the hair benefits of potato, you will too. Here are some of the hair benefits of using potato juice for hair: 1. Potato boiled water adds shine and luster to hair if used as a final hair rinse. 2. Potato juice is rich in nutrients like vitamin B, vitamin C and zinc, very essential for hair growth. 3. It treats dandruff, if used along lemon juice as a hair pack. 4. 3 Top Ways To Use Curry Leaves For Hair Growth!

I love curry leaves and use it extensively both in cooking and for hair care. I have grown up seeing both my grandmothers and aunts use curry leaves for hair care and so naturally I started using it for my hair too. Till today, curry leaf hair oil remains my all favorite hair oil, I love it because it strengthens the hair follicles and greatly prevents hair fall. Along with external application, I would suggest consuming curry leaves regularly as it provides all the nutrients required for hair growth. Here are some of the hair benefits of curry leaves: 1. Curry leaves when used externally as an oil nourishes the scalp and strengthens the hair follicles. 2. Curry leaves when used as a hair pack removes product build up in the scalp. We regularly use many chemical products on a regular basis for our hair which results in product buildup. Weekly once use of curry leaf hair pack removes product buildup from the scalp. 3. Curry leaves are one of the best home remedies for treating premature greying and I have seen it personally. My neighbor who had premature greying reversed her greying with curry leaf hair oil. It really amazed me to see how effective curry leaves are for treating hair problems. 4. When we massage our scalp with curry leaf hair oil made with curry leaves and coconut oil, it improves blood circulation in the scalp thus promoting new hair growth. 5. Curry leaves are rich in nutrients essential for hair growth, regular consumption of curry leaves will stop hair loss caused due to nutrient deficiencies. Also curry leaves are rich in antioxidants so it prevents free radicals in the body which are the main cause of premature ageing of skin and hair. At home, we add curry leaves as a seasoning to almost all our dishes and I have been advised from young age to consume the curry leaves added to the dishes. Usually most people discard the curry leaves found in the dishes and because of that reason curry leaf is usually sited as an example for people who make use of people in need and discard them later. I would highly suggest both consuming curry leaves and applying it externally on the scalp on a daily basis, it will keep our hair lustrous and strong......

5 Top Benefits Of Mayonnaise Hair Treatment For Hair Growth, Head Lice, Dry & Damaged Hair

My son loves mayonnaise and usually asks for it each time he has rotis. I don't like to give him mayonnaise bought from the shops regularly so I always make my own using olive oil, vinegar and organic country eggs from our farm. Few months back I was reading a fun article that explained all the hacks that we can do with mayonnaise other than eating it and one of the uses mentioned was a hair treatment. I was skeptical at first but since the mayonnaise I make at home contains only pure olive oil and eggs, I thought it will only do good for my hair. And I was so right, it left my hair silky smooth and glowing. Here are the hair benefits of using mayonnaise hair treatment: 1. For Hair Growth: Eggs and olive oil in the mayonnaise helps nourish and condition the scalp. It also strengthen the hair roots thus promoting hair growth. 2. Protects Dry & Damaged Hair: Mayonnaise hair treatment is one of the best home remedies for dry hair. If you have dry, damaged hair or have done chemical treatments for your hair, I would suggest using this treatment, it will greatly help. 3. For Head Lice: Though mayonnaise on it's own does not have any special ingredients that kills head lice, mayonnaise is very sticky and applying it on the hair suffocates the lice and kills it. 4. For Dandruff: Since mayonnaise contains vinegar, it  helps treat dandruff very very effectively. Try using it in the form of mayonnaise hair pack like I have given below. 5. For Hair Straightening: Mayonnaise softens and smoothens the hair shafts making the hair appear straight naturally. I would highly suggest making your own mayonnaise at home for doing this treatment, it is so easy to make and gives the best results. How To Use Mayonnaise For Hair? You can use mayonnaise separately on it's own but I prefer to use it along with a fruit like given below...

Since amla has got these amazing hair benefits, it will be a great loss if we don't use it in hair care. Amla can be used in either fresh form or in dried form. A common question that I get asked in the blog is whether fresh amlas can be substituted with dried amla powder. As many of you know I always go to great lengths to use only fresh produce that is free of pesticides for all my homemade preparations. I feel it gives the best results especially I feel homemade oils made with the fresh extracts are really effective. But powders can be substituted for fresh produce if you don't get it in your place and especially amla powder is equally effective like fresh amla. At home we make amla powder hair mask, this mask is very very effective in stimulating new hair growth and reversing grey hair black. This hair mask has got only 3 ingredients, fresh homemade yogurt, coconut oil and amla powder. We add coconut oil and yogurt as amla powder can be drying if used alone. How To Make Amla Powder At Home? We can easily make amla powder at home. To make amla powder, grate fresh amla finely, spread on a plate and sun dry till crisp covered with a thin mesh. We usually do this during hot summer months, once completely dry, powder it in a dry mixer while still crisp from sun drying. Where to Buy Amla Powder? You can also buy amla powder from the shops too. It is sold as nellikai powder in Tamil Nadu, amla powder in Northern India and Indian gooseberry powder abroad. When buying from the shops make sure to buy pure amla powder that does not have any additions to it....

10 Top Natural Tips For Growing Long Hair Fast Used In India From Ancient Times

We all want long, thick and healthy hair and in my personal opinion we can achieve it if we follow the hair care regimen of our grandmothers. We call these tips patti vaithiyam for hair growth in Tamil and if we follow these simple tips we will get thick, long hair very fast. Our grandmas led stress free lives, never ever ate junk food, used homemade products for hair care and also they never used chemical treatments on their hair. I have always wanted to record the hair care regimen of my elders for a long time and finally I have managed to do it now :). My husband's late grandmother who lived to ripe old age of 97, was an authority in home remedies. Even now we still talk often about the way she used to miraculously help everyone with home remedies. She used to be very particular about her hair care regimen even in her last days. Even though it was difficult for her as she got older, she used to always insist on having oil bath on Fridays and Tuesdays. She always used to oil her hair with pure homemade oils and I  have never seen her use commercial shampoos, she always used Arappu powder for her hair wash. Now sadly all these traditions are changing, most of us hate oiling our hair, we don't have time for leisurely stress relieving oil baths, we eat processed food and we always live in a constant state of stress, no wonder we all have so many hair problems. If we follow the simple but time honored traditions of our grand mothers, all of us will have thick, long hair. Below, I have tried to record all the traditional remedies used for long hair growth, hope you will find it useful....
